Depending upon your interest and time commitment, there are many opportunities to choose from. You can join the fundraising committee or one of the current on-going programs such as the "Pets for Seniors" or possibly Media Coordinator.
You might also consider fostering animals, or take on the role of a caretaker, or become part of the TNR effort. The shelter can also use assistance working with the cats or walking/socializing the dogs. Membership is required and a Volunteer Agreement needs to be completed and signed. You have to be at least 16 years of age to work at the shelter.
Choose the area that you are most comfortable with and suits you the best.
